Complex work, communicated clearly.

ABOUT

I'm Devonie Oleson, founder of Oleson Communications.

For more than 15 years, I've worked in the energy sector helping technical organizations communicate their work in ways that shape policy, build credibility, and reach the audiences that matter. I'm a systems thinker by nature—I see how organizational dynamics, communications strategy, and stakeholder relationships interact, and I approach those intersections intentionally. Before launching Oleson Communications in 2026, I led the Science and Technology Communications group at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (formerly the National Renewable Energy Laboratory) and managed strategic communications for some of the lab's most complex and high-profile research programs and projects.I came to science communications through journalism and documentary storytelling. I majored in film at Northwestern and found a passion for learning how to make complex ideas feel urgent, human, and worth paying attention to. That lens shapes how I approach everything I do now, from a major research report to a two-minute explainer video.I'm based in Colorado and hold an M.S. in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Strategic Innovation.

What I do

I work with energy organizations at the intersection of technical expertise, strategic communications, and organizational strategy.

  • Strategic communications: Translating technical research into audience-specific products that inform policy and build institutional credibility.

  • Thought leadership: Explainer content and stakeholder engagement strategy that position organizations as trusted voices.

  • Organizational strategy: Building project management systems, cross-functional coordination, and communications infrastructure that are grounded in systems thinking and designed to scale without overcomplicating.

  • Fundraising & proposals: Compelling proposal development and pitch strategy for philanthropy, corporate funders, and grant opportunities.

CURRENT WORK

Who I'm working with

I currently serve as Director of Communications for the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG), a nonprofit that galvanizes the expertise of the technical community to support grid transformation and energy systems integration.
